Reba McEntire Biography

A former rodeo competitor whose career now includes music and film, Reba McEntire has become one of country music most popular entertainers during her 20-year recording career. A singer who has taken the notion of country-pop to dramatic heights, McEntire has had than 60 top 40 hits, including chart toppers like "Whoever's In New England," "Little Rock," "Is There Life Out There," and "Does He Love You," an award-winning duet with backup singer Linda Davis.

A native of Chockie, Oklahoma, McEntire was born March 28, 1954, to a rodeo family; she competed occasionally, but she won at the 1974 National Rodeo Finals singing, not riding. She signed to Mercury Records, where she had some success, including a couple of chart-topping singles in 1983. Not until she moved to MCA in 1984 did her career really take off. She was named the Country Music Association's Female Vocalist Of The Year from 1984 to 1987, and she took Entertainer Of The Year honors in 1986. She remains a regular contender in the biggest categories there, and she's one of the top-drawing touring acts in the United States. She's also the best-selling female artist in country history, the only one to have five triple-platinum albums. (Her second greatest-hits album has sold more than 4 million copies.)

McEntire's siblings Pake McEntire and Susie Luchsinger have also pursued singing careers. While Reba was the wife of rodeo champion Charlie Battles from 1976-1987, she is currently married to her manager, Narvel Blackstock. She has done a considerable amount of acting, most notably in the cult horror flick Tremors and some forgettable TV movies. She has had a best-selling autobiography, Reba: My Story, and has become something of a music-industry entrepreneur: Her Starstruck Entertainment company, which built massive offices on Nashville's Music Row in 1996, has included publishing, management, publicity, film and aviation divisions. In 1998, she teamed up with country duo Brooks & Dunn for an unusual cross-promotional project: the release of B&D's album If You See Her coincided with the release of her own If You See Him, along with the duet single "If You See Him/ If You See Her."
